Films You Need To Watch: 50/50 Movie Review

I have yet to watch this film but heard nothing but great reviews from it. In replacement of my non-existent review is one belonging to a site that I know of. This film currently has a 93% on RottenTomatoes.

"If you go by the trailers for the new film 50/50, you might go in to the film expecting a cancer-comedy.  Even though the ads promote the film’s more comedic elements, director Jonathan Levine (The Wackness) wisely delivers a dramatic film that does have some funny moments but never makes light of how serious the illness is.  50/50 was written by Seth Rogan’s long time friend Will Reiser who was stricken with cancer while in his twenties.  Rogan also produced the film with another long time friend Evan Goldberg who worked with the pair years ago on Da Ali G Show.  50/50 is a very personal film for those involved and it shows."

Films You Need To Watch: Submarine (2011)

This film has got to be one of my favorites from recent years; it is a coming-of-age film that is a comedy mixed with a bit of darkness. I enjoyed everything from the cinematography to the language used. I even liked the outfits presented in the film, very fashionable set of characters. Though it shouldn't be, director Richard Ayoade is able to present Oliver Tates' (actually mostly every character) depression and sadness in a funny hysterical way. Plenty of irony is also present throughout the film making it that much better! I recommend this to anyone that likes to watch films in general.

"Fifteen-year-old Oliver Tate has two big ambitions: to save his parents' marriage via carefully plotted intervention and to lose his virginity before his next birthday. Worried that his mom is having an affair with New Age weirdo Graham, Oliver monitors his parents' sex life by charting the dimmer switch in their bedroom. He also forges suggestive love letters from his mom to dad. Meanwhile, Oliver attempts to woo his classmate, Jordana, a self-professed pyromaniac who supervises his journal writing - especially the bits about her. When necessary, she orders him to cross things out. -- (C) Weinstein"
